Social Connection Programs

Engagement, learning and wellness for older adults

Seniors thrive when more than just their dietary needs are met. Meals on Wheels goes beyond feeding their bodies by nourishing their minds and spirits with a variety of social connection programs, offered virtually and in-person. Many of these programs are offered free of charge.

Health & Wellness Programs

Social outings and activities give seniors the chance to create friendships, nurture their hobbies, visit different spots around the community and engage in lifelong learning. Likewise, we provide opportunities for older adults to stay engaged from the comfort of their homes with virtual offerings.

Recent in-person group trips and activities include:

  • Guided tours of local attractions
  • Group meals at local restaurants
  • Self-care series
  • Senior exercise
  • “Tech Talks” and info sessions
  • Lunch-and-learn series

Virtual offerings include:

  • Mindful meditation
  • Radio hours
  • Tai chi classes
  • Chair yoga
  • Popcorn & Perspectives Cinema Club

Digital Connect

Older adults can learn digital literacy skills through use of a mobile tablet device. Guided classes and instructors show them how to navigate the internet safely, how to take care of their tablet and how to use the device to make calls, check email, play games, search via Google and more. Upon completion of classes, adults receive their own tablet to keep.

Friendly Callers Club

Many Meals on Wheels clients are homebound seniors and face challenges with transportation and loneliness. Friendly Callers Club volunteers engage in weekly phone chats with the same seniors, paving the way for social engagement and friendship-building. These regular check-ins provide personable points of connection that go a long way.
