COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS

SHAPING OUR REGION'S FUTURE

Presented by ThriveTogether Partners: OKI Regional Council for Governments and Northern Kentucky Area Development District

Meals on Wheels of Southwest OH & Northern KY is proud to partner with ThriveTogether to host a series of important community conversations with older adults about climate action and community resilience.

What is ThriveTogether?

ThriveTogether is a collaboration of local organizations, including (but not limited to) Green Umbrella, Northern Kentucky Area Development District and OKI Regional Council of Governments, working together to develop Greater Cincinnati’s first-ever Sustainability Playbook. This guide will help shape the region’s efforts to reduce climate risks, build resilience and improve the health and equity of 16 counties across our region.

Why We’re Engaging Older Adults

Older adults are among the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, older adults are more susceptible to hazards like heat, insect- and water-related diseases and air pollution, due to compromised immune systems with further exacerbates existing health conditions. Older adults may experience limited mobility due to a higher fall risk or lacking transportation before, during or after an extreme weather event.

Older adults are also passionate about protecting the environment and ensuring a better future for their children and grandchildren. Their experiences and insights—on topics like transportation, environmental changes over time, agriculture and health—are essential to shaping a sustainable future for our region.
